House Prices and Earnings in Tyne and Wear 2004
The report looks at house price to earnings (HPE) ratios over 3 time periods (1983-2002; 1988-2003; 1995-2003) in an attempt to highlight patterns in the data. The main aim of the report is to identify and highlight recent growth trends in the HPE ratios as a potential indicator of a ‘housing market bubble’ in the region’s housing markets. The report suggests the likelihood of such a scenario is lower for Tyne and Wear. The report also considers the relative affordability of low earners in the housing market.
